As most people who have travelled know, it is not always where you are but who you are with. This is so true when it comes to hostels. You can be in the best hostel in the world, with amazing facilities, but if you are on your own or with a bunch oh D bags it will be no fun.
I have gone past the stage of party hostels. Drunk groups of English boys or ‘Fraternity stars’ being sick on the floor and trashing the place annoys me a little now. I now choose cool hostels. Hostels where people are friendly but not over the top. They want to party but are just as happy chilling with a few beers or a movie.
Of course facilities at these hostels need to be a bit nicer than the party hostels. I no longer just need a bar and a DJ. I need comfort, cleanliness and a bit more space.
That is why I have decided to make a cool hostels list. A list of places you can stay and party or chill and not be surrounded by morons (sadly I cannot guarantee there will be zero morons at your time of visiting).
I have just stayed two nights in one such hostel… Pink Hostel Manila.
located on the penthouse floors of a great located house. Situated in a cool university neighbourhood, along Malate backpacker alley, near Makati City.
A 5 minute walk from Vito Cruz LRT Station. All of Manila’s main attractions are easily accessible. This hostel has a swimming pool, gym, huge common area and bar.
The location is perfect. a five minute walk will get you to cheap restaurants, food stalls and bars.
I rate cool hostels on the following:
Cleanliness 8/10 (It is a big hostel and the bathrooms get a lot of use but there was always toilet roll)
Beds 7/10 (a little shakey when you climbed up to the top bunk but comfy and clean)
Atmosphere 10/10 (everyone was super friendly and chilling in the common area)
And of course one of the most important thing…
WiFi 9/10 (Fast and reliable. WiFi is only available in the common area. This does make the hostel a lot more sociable!)
The hostel has a friendly little cat and serves reasonably priced food. The cat doesn’t serve the food but you get what I mean.
Overall this hostel gets an 8.6 from me. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone. We tried to stay here our first time in Manila and it was full so make sure you book on Hostelworld or contact the hostel directly.
